The Johnson Slough Yacht Club located in the Golfview Hills Community in Hinsdale, Illinois, is dedicated to racing Sunfish as a pretense to partaking in the social activities normally associated with Sailor's and those that tolerate them.
Organized in 1958, the purpose of the Johnson Slough Yacht Club is to promote sailing, give sailing instruction, schedule sailboat racing and instruct participants about water safety.
The adult racing season begins the first of April and lasts until the beginning of November Races are held every Sunday at 1:00pm. Loaner boats are often available.
For more than 40 years JSYC has hosted the last Regional Regattas of the sailing season for the Sunfish Fleet 79 class. The Pumpkin Regatta is in late October. The race is well attended by top-ranked regional competitors.
Social activities include the Commodore's Party, The Watermelon Race and the Don Mitchell Race on July 4th,and the Dry-Dock Ball in November, when the year's sailing trophies are awarded
The Junior Yacht Club is open to young persons 8 to 16 years old who wish to learn sailing, sailboat racing sailing rules and safety. There is no fee for juniors, but parents are asked to join the Yacht Club and participate with their children.
Classes for sailors of all ages are held starting in June for those needing instruction.
